- TRIP HIGHLIGHTS Gornje & Donje Bare glacier lakes Bosnia's highest peak Maglic (2,386m) Trnovacko Glacier Lake, over the Montenegro border Day 1: In the morning, leaving Sarajevo behind, we will transfer to Sutjeska National Park. After we reach our hotel in the Tjentiste Valley, we will continue to Papin Do Hut and Jagodino Lake. From the lake, we continue over open mountainous terrain to the summit of Kuk (1,817m), right on the border with Montenegro, for panoramic views of the Zelengora mountain and the rockface wall of Volujak. We descend partially the same way down, a bit more than an hour, with the Lebrsnik and Volujak slopes as constant companions on the horizon. After the lunch break close to the hut, we take a transfer back to the Park Valley, through the gorgeous Sutjeska River canyon, down to the hotel for a well-deserved dinner (approximately 45 minutes). In the late afternoon, before dinner, we take a 10 to 15-minute stroll from the hotel to visit the Partisan Memorial of Sutjeska. This giant, angular sculpture pays tribute to the thousands of Partisan soldiers who died during the Battle of Sutjeska in the Second World War.Accommodation: Hotel Mladost, Tjentište Meals: Lunch, Dinner Day 2: We offer two options for today; A moderate hike to Trnovacko Lake or a strenuous hike up to Maglic summit, the highest one in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today the drive to Perucica medieval forest will take us a little more than 45 minutes. The park is a true gem in terms of wildlife and a large number of endemic plants. The park also includes Bosnia and Herzegovina’s highest and impressive mountain Maglic, named after the thick fog that often surrounds its rocky peak. We will briefly stop at Dragos Sedlo with its colourful view of one of two remaining medieval forests in Europe – Perucica. Jumping out from eternity, we are graced by a lonely waterfall “Skakavac” plunging itself 75 meters down into the dark spruce and beech forest of Perucica. Here we will split up the group into those who are interested in a challenging 4-hour hike up to Maglic at 2,386m and those opting for a moderate 2-hour hike to Trnovacko Lake. At the end of the day, we will all meet up again at the Trnovacko Glacier Lake, which is set in the middle of a huge amphitheatre of rocky peaks, at 1,500 meters. After a well-deserved break, we find our way back to the vehicle and return to Sarajevo completely amazed by our adventure in Sutjeska National Park, what we’ve done and the natural beauty we’ve encountered.
