Coined as Oakland’s hipster neighborhood for its many artsy young inhabitants, Temescal has also emerged as an eating destination, home to innovative offerings by creative food producers. The neighborhood’s food makers come from varied backgrounds: pop-up restaurants, fine dining establishments, and even farmers’ market stands. The talent behind the tastes have helped this tour earn the title of "The Best Oakland Food Tour You'll Ever Take."
One of the most diverse destinations in the country, the food in this neighborhood is a true reflection of the city of Oakland. Sample fresh Baja-style tacos from the Cholita Linda stand at the weekly farmers’ market, followed by an award-winning Breton pastry from a local artisan baker, authentic Ethiopian injera and wot, Korean rice bowls, treats from the trendy Temescal Alleys, and more.

My Foodies group had a tour of the Temescal region with wonderful tastes of various cuisines. We loved Bowl'd, for Korean dishes including bibimbap (rice bowls with savory meats and fried egg on top), veggie pancakes, and a sweet tea made from barley and other grains. Next was Ethiopian food at Abesha, with lentil and split pea and other savory stews on a great spongy bread, injera. We headed to Bakesale Betty's for delicious mini fried chicken sandwiches with coleslaw - served al fresco on folding tables, aka ironing boards! Betty is known for her blue wig and scrumptious pies, cookies, etc. The final touch was ice cream at Curbside Creamery -- some flavors were made with cashew milk. Our group loved it. Our tour leader, Rebecca, was thorough, excellent and knowledgeable, and our very nice Edible Excursions manager was Luisa.

We are so glad you could join us! Thank you for the review.
Our expert guide will meet you at the Farmer's Market, in the DMV parking lot, and introduce you to local artisans and farmers that have been serving this area for years.
One of Oakland’s hipper neighborhoods, Temescal has emerged as an eating destination, home to culinary innovation and creative food producers. It's home to creative food producers, culinary innovation, and menus reflecting the diverse cultural mix of the community. Begin the tour with fresh seasonal produce at the Urban Village farmers market and pucker up for some fermented fun from Golden State Pickle Works. We follow those tastes with Baja-style tacos from Cholita Linda and a decadent sweet pastry known as a kouign-amann from Starter Bakery. Round out this tour with traditional Ethiopian injera (fermented flatbread) and wot (stew) from Abesha Ethiopian Cuisine, classic tofu soup from Pyeong Chang Tofu House, and a sweet end note in the charming alleys, courtesy of Curbside Creamery.
