Your full day out along the Baroque Route mountain railway—one of France’s most picturesque train journeys—begins conveniently in the heart of Nice. In the morning, meet your guide at the Nice train station, and come prepared for a day out in France’s spectacular maritime Alps region. With round-trip transit and hands-on guidance, this tour offers an accessible way to get out in nature.
Once aboard the train, soak up extraordinary mountain views, with stops in several notable villages, including Tende and La Brigue. This active tour—which also covers roughly 9 miles (15 kilometers) on foot—gives you the chance to really immerse yourself in the scenery. Then, break for lunch: Enjoy a picnic of local fare, or upgrade for an indulgent meal in one of the top restaurants in town.
Afterwards, the journey continues to Saorge, considered one of France’s most beautiful villages. Visit its historic monastery before continuing your hiking in the Roya Valley. As you go, your guide will share stories and history about the region that you wouldn’t discover on your own.
Finally, return to central Nice by train at the end of the day, where this experience ends.

Our day was perfect from start to finish. Carmella was a fantastic guide and was well versed in the history of the villages and France in general. The alps were beautiful and it was a great day!!

It’s a lot of hard uphill walking but well worth the effort. Cyril was an excellent host, full of knowledge and laughter

This train excursion far exceeded my expectations. Our guide Samuel was very informative and he cared for our group with such kindness and sensitivity. The restaurants he took us to were so special. And I love how he helped us bridge these relationships with his kindness to everyone. He had closed museums open for us and people just open their hearts and "home" to us, thanks to him. I must add more accolades to the local people. They were very endearing and kind and talented It was a truly special experience to witness. I wish to be more like Samuel in my world.

Great trip! Out into the countryside to see two smaller villages. The guide is very knowledgeable and was able to explain a lot about both!
Meeting point at 7.30am:
At the big blue gate of Gare des Chemins de Fer de Provence, 4bis Rue Alfred Binet, Nice (2mn walk from Tramway (line 1) stop "Libération", the beautiful building on the square Place Charles de Gaulle is la Halle de la Gare du Sud. The small train station is just behind
Nearby (2mn walk) the historical train station nowadays transformed in street food market. Very pleasant district with a very popular local food market
