D Day 3 days tour,, disappointing

Traveler10019127420, Apr 2025

We got to Folkestone pick up point at 1100hrs,, stop 24. We got our tour bus and arrived at Dover just after 1200hrs. We were told our ferry was leaving at 1500hrs, Irish ferries, Dfds and other ferries were leaving regularly, could have been on one of them instead. The tour guide warned us to get a warm meal on board as we won't arrive at our hotel until 2230hrs,, wow.The hotel they chose was an Ibis Falaise.Bfast was poor each day, no packed lunch for day, got back to hotel each evening at 1930hrs, relaxing evening,,, no.Guide said we need to pay £10 each time for museum visits (2 museums,) £40 per couple. When we got to museum no.1 price for bigger groups was 7.5 euros each, that's like £7, so times that by 40 on tour, someone pocketed £120 on top. Next day museum was 5.5 euros each,, £5 so someone pocketed £200 on top,,, what a rip off.The tour guide tried to block our vision of the price board,, clever eh. The places we saw were nice and interesting but we didn't need to visit so many each day,,,left us no leisure time back at hotel. My conclusion is ,, hotel too far away from Battlefields(90 mins each day) Too many places visited so no time to sit back and enjoy. Evening meals are essential and decent times would be appreciated too.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. However, we believe there has been a misunderstanding, as the tour you described was not operated by our company. At Parismatic Tour, we specialize exclusively in tours departing from Paris. We do not operate pick-ups from Folkestone, provide ferry crossings to Dover, or offer overnight stays in the Falaise region. Additionally, the logistics and pricing you’ve outlined do not align with any of the services we provide. We completely understand how frustrating a disappointing travel experience can be, and we hope you’re able to get in touch with the correct tour operator to address your concerns directly. If in the future you are planning a visit to Paris and would like a high-quality and enjoyable tour experience, we’d be delighted to welcome you and show you the best the city has to offer. Wishing you all the best in your travels,

Paul was absolutely wonderful - we learned so much and also were able to see all of the important places. Thank you so much for an unforgettable day - highly, highly recommend!

Ashley_C, Apr 2025

We had Herve and he was fantastic. We had 6 people. All females ranging from 10-70s. Herve was great keeping everyone’s attention. He was very knowledgeable. Someone in our group had a grandfather that was on Omaha beach on D-Day. He took us to the location that he would have landed, so they could gather rocks and sand. Herve also took several pictures of us from good spots that we wouldn’t have known about otherwise. Thank you for an amazing experience! Splurging for a private experience was 100% worth it vs a huge tour bus.

A perfect day!

Every consideration given from bathroom breaks, crowd avoidance and quality lunch site. Guide was extremely knowledgeable. A perfect day!

Itinerary

  • D-Day Beaches (Plages du Debarquement de la Bataille de Normandie)

Your private tour guide will take your private group up for a full day of World War II history, with an emphasis on the American soldiers who fought to protect the Allies and their people.

You will visit important sites such as the ones that follow.

    2 hours
  • Pointe du Hoc

Start your visit with your private guide by Pointe du Hoc, where American troops landed on D-Day. This is one of the most significant World War II sites, and unlike many other Normandy landmarks, Pointe du Hoc is largely untouched, making this an emotional and powerful place to begin the private tour.

Your expert guide will take you through the history and significance of what happened here on June 6, 1944, as American troops scaled the cliffs (the highest point in the region) to take back control from German troops who had built 6 casemates to house a battery of 155 mm guns.

Stand before this site, situated Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, and reflect on the heroic struggle of the American Second Ranger Battalion under the command of Lt. Col. James E. Rudder. Ultimately, many American soldiers sacrificed their lives in order to protect fellow troops from German counterattacks.

    1 hour
  • Omaha Beach

Leaving Pointe duc Hoc, continue on a drive for a visit to Omaha Beach, the site of one of the most significant events of World War II.

Stand on the sands where 2,400 American soldiers lost their lives on D-Day in an effort to secure a beachhead spanning some 5 miles between Port en Bessin and the Vire River, linking up with the British landings at Gold Beach and the Americans at Utah Beach.

Your guide will take you through this history of Omaha Beach before leaving you with free time to reflect and pay your respects to those who fought against the German 352nd Infantry Division.

When you are ready, a provided lunch will be served before heading to the American Cemetery.

    2 hours
  • Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer

After lunch your journey continues with an extensive visit to the 172.5-acre American Cemetery of Colleville, the resting place of some 9,387 military, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings.

Here, take your time visiting the graves, the Memorial, the Wall of the Missing, and the chapel.

Your visit will be followed with a stop at the beautifully designed American Interpretive Center, where you will have the opportunity to watch remarkable short films and documentaries relating the events of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy operations.

    1 hour
  • Arromanches-les-Bains

Leaving the American Cemetery, you'll sit back and relax on a drive to the Arromanches with its vestiges of the artificial harbor (Mulberry Bridge), Longues-sur-Mer and the German artillery battery, which gave the allies a pounding on the morning of June 6.

It is actually the only coastal battery to have kept its guns, giving an impressive picture of what an Atlantic wall gun emplacement was really like.

At the end of your day you will be given free time to explore the Caen Peace Memorial, a place for contemplating war in general and why it is important not to forget the legacy of the Second World War.
