The palace is absolutely magnificent, I highly recommend going when you are in Munich. Our tour guide was certainly knowledgeable enough, but was a bit of a mumbler, and it was often difficult to not only hear her but understand what she was saying

Our group thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Nymphenburg Palace with our tour guide Lean. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and as someone from Italy, had a uniquely European and interesting perspective about the Wittelsbachs, who ruled Bavaria and had connections through marriage with other European royal houses. Our tour began at the Marstallmuseum which was the carriage house with hundreds of years of Wittelsbach family vehicle history. The highlight was the coronation coach of Emperor Karl VII, one of the most ornate coaches built in the French Rococo style, and it also displayed various other coaches and sleighs. Lean had stories to go along with everything we saw, and she made the visit to the carriage museum very interesting. The palace, while extremely large and beautiful, was just a big empty house with lots of old portraits unless you had someone guiding you through it who could bring it all to life with stories of the people who lived there and the historical times in which they lived. As a former teacher, Lean was very patient and able to put together a thoroughly researched and comprehensible description of the life and times of the Bavarian Whittelsbachs, and room by room she walked us through the lives of the rulers, describing their historical significance, their marriages, and their desire to hold on to power by marrying into other royal families. She pointed out the décor of the rooms, their function, and identified who was in the portraits we saw in every room. She happily answered all our questions. It was a complete emersion into the life and times of the rulers of Bavaria. I can’t imagine going to Nymphenburg Palace without a guide like Lean. Everyone in our group was glad that we had made the decision to book a guided tour for our visit. I don’t think we would have gotten as much out of the experience if we had not had a guided tour with someone as knowledgeable and friendly as Lean.
