Fantastic experience.

Dieter our guide was exceptional. Though I had booked this walking tour i was a bit hesitant when I learned It was a two and a half hour walk. However I am so glad I went as Dieter is extremely knowledgeable - think of a history professor showing you the sights and explaining it's relevance to that period. He also provides sit down slots as he talks . I could have gone on an for another hour.
Excellent Hitler/Nazi Tour

When in Vienna, we mostly heard about the Hapsburg and Marie Theresa. To us, there was a huge void of information about WW II and Nazi occupation in Vienna. However, with this tour with Wolfgang, we gained more depth about Hitler and his rise to power. He shared information about the history of Nazism and the events in Vienna. It was shared in 5 different lecture formats which was fascinating for me but could be difficult for those with shorter attention spans or low interest levels.
Excellent introduction to the complex story of Austria and Nazism

My wife and I wanted to do a walking tour that would take us outside the usual tourist spots and give us more insight into life in Vienna before and during WW2. We also wanted to hear from a Viennese resident how Austrians were impacted by, participated in and have subsequently addressed Nazism in Austria. This was a really insightful tour led by a really super tour guide. It gave us everything we were looking for. Although billed as 'Hitler's Vienna', the narrative of the tour began with Hitler's life before WW1, continued into the inter-war years and the Nazi takeover of Austria and ended in the post-war decades as later generations of Austrians eventually and belatedly examined the actions of their parents' and grandparents' generations. It's a complex story and I highly recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in twentieth century European history.

Itinerary
On May 25, 1869, the opening was celebrated in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth with a premiere of Don Juan by Mozart. But than after 1938 everything changed including the cultural life in Vienna changed.After the "Anschluss" of Austria, Adolf Hitler visited the State Opera on June 19 and October 27, 1938. The period of National Socialism saw the departure, persecution and murder of artists and employees. For several works there was a ban on performance.

The Memorial against War and Fascism is the work of Austrian sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka. It has stood since 1988 on Vienna's Albertinaplatz - named after Helmut Zilk in 2009. The memorial it is intended to serve as a reminder of the darkest era in Austrian history. It is dedicated to all victims of war and fascism.

The "Seitenstettentempel" is hidden behind a tenement building.
The main synagogue of Vienna is located at Seitenstettengasse 4. According to the regulations in force at that time, non-Catholic places of worship had to be hidden and could not be visible from the street. Therefore, the synagogue stands behind a five-story apartment building. Above the entrance gate of the street building is the inscription: "Come to his gates with thanksgiving, to his courts with praise!"
