The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution. Over 100 hundred artists submitted plans, but the contract went to civil engineer Gustav Eiffel, who had already designed the structure for the Statue of Liberty. The Eiffel Tower was initially painted a reddish-brown but its colour changed.
Stretching nearly 776 kilometers, the Seine river connects Paris to the English Channel. The river begins in Burgundy at the Saint-Germain-Source-Seine and meets the sea at the English Channel in northern France. The Seine River is one of the most important rivers in the country and it offers visitors the great chance to discover Paris from a very unique and suggestive perspective.
