Overview

Your day trip from Strasbourg begins when you meet your guide aboard the awaiting minivan in the town center. Settle into air-conditioned comfort for the scenic drive.

The first stop is the village of Colmar, where you’ll go on a walking tour with your guide. The town’s cobblestoned streets are lined with characteristic German-style half-timbered buildings, and you’ll even see some canals. See Colmar’s main sights, including Saint Martin’s Church and the 16th-century Pfister House, and wander historic neighborhoods like Little Venice.

Your next stop is the picturesque town of Eguisheim, known for its Medieval buildings decorated with flowers, and then it’s on to Riquewihr. The charming town sits inside Medieval walls, and is a warren of meandering alleys and chocolate-box houses. Enjoy some time to explore the pretty town at your leisure, including time to have lunch (own expense).

Continuing on your Alsace tour, the next point of interest is the 105-mile (170 km) Alsace Wine Route (Route des Vins d’Alsace). This scenic road curves gently through rolling hills and past acres of vineyards at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. Continue toward your final stop — Haut Koenigsbourg Castle (Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg).

The castle dates from the 12th century, and you’ll have a chance to explore the inside — including where people once lived inside it — and find out how this powerful fortress used to control the salt, wheat and wine routes from northern and eastern Europe. Admire the excellent views from the castle’s hilltop vantage point before climbing back into the minivan for the drive back to Strasbourg at the starting point of the tour.

If you have a car, drive yourself. Not worth the cost.

Tiffany_B, Jan 2026

We paid a good amount for this tour just for the guide to drop us off at the different towns and let us walk around for a couple of hours. She talked on the long drive and then dropped us at the towns for us to walk around ourselves. I expected more of a guided experience where we could learn about the sites around the town. We had our own car and could have saved a lot of money driving ourselves.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Bonjour Tiffany_B, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the tour did not fully meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify our approach. Our excursions are designed to offer a balance between guided commentary and independent exploration. During the drive, the guide provides historical, cultural, and regional insights to give context to the areas you are visiting. Once in the villages, guests are given free time to explore at their own pace, allowing everyone to focus on what interests them most, whether that’s architecture, local shops, photography, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. The castle visit, however, is guided. During the Christmas season in particular, our guides do their utmost to respect the planned itinerary while also juggling significant logistical challenges, including very high visitor numbers and limited parking access in the villages. These factors can impact how time is allocated on site, and flexibility is often required to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the group. We understand that some travelers prefer a fully guided walking tour in each village, and we regret if this tour format was not clear enough beforehand. Your feedback is valuable and helps us improve how we communicate expectations. Beyond transportation, the tour price reflects the services of a professional guide, comfortable transport, itinerary planning, and local expertise, elements that many guests appreciate even if they could technically drive themselves. Thank you again for your comments, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again on a tour better suited to your expectations. Kind regards, Carole Ophorus Team

Excellent visit

Very nice and complete excursion. Carlos our guide has been charming and very didactic. In addition to knowing the history of the places visited, it provides information about the life of the place, excursions, good restaurant recommendations, etc. An excellent day trip.

Great way to see multiple sites and learn about the region

Excellent all day tour! Camille was a fabulous guide. She drove us and taught us all day. She was fun and full of facts. It was cold as it was December so dress accordingly. We were there to see these great towns and visit the Christmas markets. Fun day!

The Christmas market in Colmar 2025.

Colmar Picturesque old town to fall in love with! We have taken so many fantastic photos with half-timbered houses. Many visitors flock to the Christmas markets in Colmar, causing enormous problems with public toilets and parking. The public toilets are only available at Grande roue de Colmar (ferris wheel). The second way to visit a toilet is to use the restaurants, but these usually don't open until around 18:00 or 19:00.
